    Recommended by Police

Queensland Police encourage people to consider adopting items including personal duress alarms to help keep people and property safe. They suggest that the best part of these alarm systems is their versatility - personal duress alarms can be attached to your car keys, house keys, handbags, or even bed side table. QPS Media, 2019.

Effective defence and attention in emergencies

The theory behind personal duress alarms is that, once activated, the alarm will startle the offender, giving you time to find a place of safety. The loud noise emitted by the alarm draws attention from people nearby who can provide assistance and alert emergency services. The threat of attention being drawn can deter an offender for the risk of being caught in the act.

    Easy to use and versatile

Call it what you will - duress alarm, duress button, personal attack alarm, personal security alarm, personal panic alarm, duress panic alarm, personal SOS alarm, safe sound personal alarm - our personal mini alarm has a wide variety of applications. The most popular uses for duress alarms include:

    • Personal safety and torch
    • Attention in case of falls in the garden or bathroom
    • Attention in case of emergencies while doing solo activities such as hiking or jogging
    • For children to carry in their backpacks and draw immediate attention in emergencies

Simply pull on the keyring or press the SOS button twice, and the ear-piercing alarm will sound and flash for 50-minutes of continuous sound.

    Excellent customer service

I recently purchased this devise and when it arrived was disappointed that the alarm level was quiet. At the last minute i decided to send an email expressing my disappointment in the product. I was not expecting a response. However within an hour i recieved a reply ensuring the product is very loud and i must have received a faulty product and a new device would be sent immediately. Three days later i received a new device which is exactly what I'd hoped it would be. Great to be dealing with an Aussie company with such brilliant custeromer service.

Hi Jan, Thank you so much for your 5-star review for our customer service and the personal alarm.
We apologise again for any inconveniences caused by the first faulty item and we are happy to hear that the new device meets your expectations. Thank you for choosing our product, for trusting us and for your support. We appreciate it greatly. :)

    Good quality

Great product! I was a little concerned that the pin on the keychain might be too sensitive and the alarm would go off in my handbag. However, that's not the case. It's quite tight. Like my alarm.

Hi Sonja, thank you for your positive feedback on our personal mini alarm and torch. We're glad to hear that you are satisfied with the quality of our product and that the alarm hasn't accidentally gone off in your handbag. :) Thank you for choosing our product. Have a great day!

Luckily never had to use it. But I'm sure I would get attention. This thing is super loud.

Thank you for your review Tanja! We're glad to hear that you haven't had to use our personal mini alarm and torch yet. However, we assure you that it is loud enough to get attention if needed. Stay safe!

    Great torch

Haven't needed the alarm function yet but the torch is great. Still have a car where I have to use the actual key to unlock which is a bit tricky in the dark. The torch helps a lot. Thanks for the fast delivery as well.

Hi Abby, thank you so much for your review. We're glad to hear that the torch has been helpful for you in unlocking your car in the dark. We hope you never have to use the alarm function, but it's always good to have it for added safety. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for choosing our product. Have a great day!

    FAQs about duress alarms

    What is a duress alarm?

A personal duress alarm is a small, portable alarm designed to alert others when the person carrying it is in distress or facing an emergency situation. These alarms are typically compact, easy to carry, and may be activated quickly in case of an emergency. The primary purpose of a personal duress alarm is to attract attention and help when feeling threatened, unsafe, or in need of assistance.

Personal duress alarms are often used by joggers, students, mature adults, or anyone who may find themselves in situations where they could feel vulnerable or unsafe. They can be carried on keychains, worn as accessories, or attached to clothing for easy access in case of an emergency.

    How do duress alarms work?

The theory behind personal duress alarms is that, once activated, the alarm will startle the offender, giving the individual in distress time to find a place of safety. The loud noise emitted by the alarm draws attention from nearby people who can provide assistance and alert emergency services. The threat of attention being drawn can deter an offender for risk of being caught in the act.

Common features of personal duress alarms include a piercingly loud siren or alarm sound, a button, switch or pull pin for activation, and sometimes additional features like a flashlight or other safety features.

Who are personal duress alarms suitable for?

Personal duress alarms are often used by joggers, students, mature adults, or anyone who may find themselves in situations where they could feel vulnerable or unsafe. Many safety experts and police agree that women and children should carry a personal duress alarm with them in times where safety is at risk.

What personal alarms do police recommend?

Queensland Police Services recommend personal duress alarms in general. In their test and review of personal alarms, QPS does not specify a particular product, and states "these devices can be purchased online or in stores and are as cheap as $10" (QPS, 2019) suggesting that it is up to the individual user to consider personal circumstances to find the best personal duress alarm for their use.

Some factors to consider when purchasing a personal duress alarm are:
    - Ease of use: easy to activate in an emergency with a single hand (BUT not too easy such that it is activated unintentionally while being carried in a bag)
    - Splash proof: at some point the duress alarm will be exposed to some water or moisture and you want to make sure it is operational when needed
    - Rechargeable: more convenient than changing batteries
    - Additional safety features: options such as a torch can come in handy, and a flashing light mode can help attract attention, particularly at night for a longer period of time

Here are some more safety tips from QPS for when you are out and about:
    - Be aware of your surroundings
    - When entering your vehicle, consider locking your doors
    - Avoid walking alone at night or in areas you feel are ‘risky’
    - Remove all valuables and personal items when leaving your car unattended, or ensure they are out of sight
